Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 21, 2018 (SKNIS): The Government of National Unity, under its Unity Housing Solutions Programme, has delivered thirty more homes to 30 individuals on August 21 as part of its mandate to provide affordable housing to lower and middle-income families.

These new homeowners hail from Constituency Seven, which includes the villages of Molineux, Estridge, Tabernacle, Lodge Project and Bourryeau. 16 homes were built in clusters and 14 homes were built under the NHC (National Housing Corporation) Building Assistance Programme.

Speaking at the key presentation ceremony at Catholic Street Housing Extension in Molineux, Minister responsible for Human Settlement, Hon. Eugene Hamilton, said that the government has been given a divine authority to help those in need.

“We in this Team Unity Administration have signaled from the very start that God’s love abides in us,” he said. “That is why our approach to government is the way it is because we have accepted the fact that you have put us in authority and we use the authority you gave us to give unto those who are in need because we are showing the compassion that God has asked us to show on our people.”

Minister Hamilton noted that the houses are bigger, stronger, aesthetically pleasing and more affordable.

“We have given you houses and we say no longer will we be building the small houses,” he said. “These are 862 square feet—bigger bedrooms that can hold more than a bed now, possibly two beds, and a dressing table. It is a house fit for a king. Interest is as low as two percent. Nowhere in the world does this.”

The Minister of Human Settlement said that the handing over of keys is part of the overall policy of building homes in every community.

“This government is not looking at where you live. We are responsible for the entire country. Even if you didn’t vote for us we are still responsible and we are going to act responsibly,” he said.
