WATCH: Sawyers Humbled By International Goal Getting Exploits for Team St.Kitts-Nevis

I’ve never seen the stadium like it was that night…”

ROMAINE Sawyers has described the moment he put St.Kitts and Nevis ahead in their World Cup Qualifier with El Salvador.

St.Kitts-Nevis International Romaine Sawyers showed great composure to slide the ball in off the inside of the post to put the Sugar Boyz 2-1 up.

“It was a great game to be involved in as any International game is but to score a goal was just breath-taking,” admitted Sawyers.

“I’ve never seen the stadium like it was that night. When I scored it was really humbling to be appreciated by the fans like that.”

The goal looked set to give St.Kitts and Nevis a first-leg lead heading into the return game on Tuesday.

But a late equaliser from Romanian-based striker Nelson Bonilla means the two sides will do it all again at the Estadio Cuscatlan with the score level at 2-2.

“We made two defensive errors that led to their goals but aside from that we put in a very solid team performance against a team that only conceded two against Argentina and one against Chile,” added Sawyers.

“El Salvador play friendlies against these big nations regularly so it was a great stepping stone for my country to show that we are working hard and moving in the right direction.

“This is only the half way point and we have to finish the job in El Salvador which will be a completely different atmosphere as they are the home nation and have a bigger crowd than us.

“But the mood is confident and vibrant in the camp and we are sure that can play to our game plan.  God willing we can get the result that’s needed to take us through to the next round.

The forward thinking midfield man has been deployed in a more advanced role for his country and has been inundated by Saddlers fans showing their support.

“On behalf of the St Kitts and Nevis National Team I’s like to say thank you for all the support we are getting from back home.

We see and appreciate it all.”
