The ECCB governor begins promised engagement with the public

April 10, 2016 , (Antigua Daily Observer),

The Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central has committed to make the institution more transparent.

Timothy Antoine, who took up the job on February 1, gave the commitment in the first podcast.

In the production called ECCB Connects, Antoine laments that the St. Kitts based bank has operated under a veil of secrecy.

“The Central Bank has served the region so well for so long, yet relatively little is known about who we are, what we do and why we do it. I want to change that. I want to lift the veil, so that people can look into our bank, their bank, understand our role, our purposes, our functions, but more importantly, their role in ensuring that we have a strong EC dollar and a strong and thriving currency union,” he said.

Antoine says since taking up the job, he has implemented several measures to make the bank more relevant in the minds of the average citizen.

“One of the first things we did in the first week was to get into the social media space when we launched our Youtube channel, and we said in the vision (that) we were going use social media platforms. Today, our inaugural podcast, ECCB Connects is the next step as what we described in the vision as citizen engagement and stakeholder relations strategy,” he added.

The Grenadian says he has also been able to open up lines of communications from within the bank going from department to department throughout listening to and sharing with staff.
