Team UNITY Govt Reviewing Three Options To Resolve Long Standing Old Road Bay Hazzard

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Minister of Public Infrastructure, Hon. Ian “Patches”  Liburd has announced that the long standing Old Road Bay hazard issue will be one of the upcoming projects to be pursued by his Ministry.

Hon. Liburd stated “We can’t have that situation .Cars have gone over onto the Bay and people have died”.

A solution to the  Old Road Bay Hazzard has been a major issue of debate  for decades

Minister Liburd said “It is critical for us and we would focus on that as well in the entire process of the island main road development. It would be included in our fiscal appropriation on our Capital Expenditure estimate.”

The Minister revealed that the Team UNITY Government through his Ministry are looking at three options to resolve the hazard.

The options according to Minister Liburd are:

1) Partially  benching the hillside  which would capture the rocks as they fall.
2) Cutting a new road through the hill to gain more access to the interior.
3) Reclaim some land seaward” so that the road would go outwards.

The Minister hinted that the Partial benching of the hillside might be the preferred option of the government.

“We are just about finalising which option is best and I suspect that we would use the partial benching option,” the Minister declared.

Citizens and residents especially drivers have long lamented and complained about the danger that exisists at Old Road Bar Rd . At least one life has been lost as a result of falling stones in the area.

According to Liburd remedial work is expected to being shortly in preparation for the long overdue and awaited project.
