Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 19, 2017 (SKNIS)-Following the passage of Hurricane Maria and due to the dislocation which has been occasioned, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, has declared tomorrowWednesday 20, from 9:00am as National Clean Up Day. This decision was taken after consultation with the economic and social partners.

It is encouraged that citizens and residents would remain in and be a part of their community efforts to clean up the environment. Please be aware that fallen power lines may be live and extreme caution must be taken. Also, be aware that there may be residual effects of the storm. Homeowners with knowledge of home repair or know of local services (such as a service similar to this TrueWorks Tile Roofing company) that can aid with home repairs, please help neighbors repair storm damage and share information about these services. While every effort is being made by the government to return the federation to a state of normalcy, the government appreciates the collaboration of all citizens and residents.

Essential services workers such as airport workers, health care workers, the security forces, and Public Works workers should report for duty.

The management teams of schools should report to their respective schools to do an assessment of the conditions.
