Saturday April 10th (TUCOM):-PRIME Minister Dr. Timothy Harris is currently leading St.Kitts-Nevis’ delegation to the Seventh Summit of the Americas, which opened yesterday Friday 10th April in Panama City, Panama.
The summit, which has as its theme “Prosperity with Equity: The Challenge of Cooperation in the Americas”, has heads of state and government of all 35 countries of the Americas which includes South America, the Caribbean, Central America and North America , were all in attendance.

They were expected to discuss common policy issues, affirm shared values and commit to concerted actions at the national and regional level to address continuing and new challenges faced by countries in the Americas.

During last evenings Opening events Prime Minister Harris along with other Caribbean Leaders in Jamaica’s Portia Simpson-Miller, Barbados’ Freundel Stuart and Grenada’s Dr. Kieth Mitchell all engaged U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in informal discussions regarding the development of Caribbean countries. The UN Secretary-General along with Pope Francis were among the featured speakers at the Opening of the historic summit.

Dr. Harris , who arrived in Panama on Thursday , is scheduled to leave Panama for New York. Dr. Harris is being accompanied by Foreign Minister and Deputy Premier of Nevis Hon. Mark Brantley, Minister of Public Utilities , Transport, Works and Energy Hon. Ian “Patches” Liburd along with Foreign Service Officers Justin Kareem Hawley and Kaye Bass .
