Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 06, 2016 (SKNIS): Park Hyatt St. Kitts has been interviewing dynamic, energetic and people-centred, local individuals to fill job positions still available at the luxury hotel, which will open in March 2017.

General Manager of Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Julian Moore, said that it is important to hire locals as the local community is the essence of the destination.

“Without the locals in the hotel you’re just transplanting the hotel, whereas what we are aiming to do here is to bring the luxury of the local Park Hyatt brand to the island but to give it its own unique signature by embracing and interacting with the community itself,” said Mr. Moore. “It means that when the guests come here, not only do they come and they visit the resort but they get a sense of place, they get a sense of belonging and for that you need to have that local community there.”

The general manager said that Park Hyatt values the individuality and personalities of its workers. To embrace this, the hotel is looking for persons who are personable, interactive and who have a genuine inbuilt sense of care.

“We all know people in our community, people we know in our relationships, we have some that are amazingly caring and there are others that care but don’t show it and obviously in hospitality we need the ones who can show that and explain and see a guest and know that this is what is going to make this experience special,” said Mr. Moore. “That is the target we want to recruit for our brand.”

Mr. Moore said that every individual contribution made by each position filled is critical to the overall benefit of the hotel.

“The beauty of the jobs is dependent on whatever discipline you are after. If you are looking for a job in food and beverage, it could be a stewarding job, it could be a waiter, it could be a bus boy, it might be a hostess, it could be that you want to be a bar man or you want to be a server, it could be that you want to manage the beach bar, a pool boy, an activity centre manager—there are so many opportunities in the hotel regardless of whether it’s a guest service function, support function, because in the hotel, for us, it does not matter what the job is, every job has equal importance.”

Mr. Moore assured that the hotel is seeking to remain in operation when it is open and as such it sees itself as a member of the community and wants the community to see it in that capacity.

Mr. Moore stated that Park Hyatt also wants to be able to work and share knowledge with educational institutions such as the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).

“We also want to be able to raise the skill level and raise awareness for the destination,” said the general manager. “One of the ways we are going to be doing that (is that) we are going to be sharing aspects of the destination every year with our guests. So, the first year we are going to be focusing on the history of the islands. We are going to be showcasing some of the historical elements both on St. Kitts and on Nevis to the guests and our chef will also be designing certain elements around historical components of the destination. Then in our second year, we will move on to another theme of the island. In coming years, we will talk about the people of the islands. So, the idea is that every year someone comes and learns something new and exciting about St. Kitts and Nevis and hopefully comes back and contributes to the economy here.”

Park Hyatt will continue its pre-arranged interviews until November 12, conducted at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.

“We do need to identify the potential of the number of employees that we can secure from St. Kitts and Nevis,” said the general manager. “So, we are encouraging everyone who is interested in working for the hotel please go online, www.hyatt.jobs and get your application in as soon as possible because that will enable us to reach out, make the appointment, have the discussion and see whether the type of hotel that we are running and the type of job that you are looking for are a good match.”

There will be a job fair on November 19 for persons interested in working with the hotel. Interested persons are asked to bring their resumes and to submit applications there.
