BEEF ISLAND, VI- It was yesterday December 6, 2017 when a member of our Team of Reporters returned to the Virgin Islands that they noticed a Cape Air plane stuck on the runway at the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.
It appears that the plane had blown a right side tire some time before 3:00 P.M after being cleared by the control tower for take off. While none of us in the newsroom are aviation experts, it is believed that either the tire ran out of air or the pilot stood up on the brakes.
It could have also been caused by the tire running off the wheels, but for sure Cape Air cannot blame the lack of runway, as there was plenty of room for take off for the type of aircraft, a Cessna 402C.
Silence is golden
Calls to the BVI Airports Authority (BVIPA) were not immediately returned; however, we were advised by an airport source a few weeks ago that Cape Air had a few months ago reportedly run off the same airport runway.
Good news is there were no injuries in both incidents.
