Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 05, 2019 (SKNIS): Officials at the National Housing Corporation (NHC) in St. Kitts are working steadfastly to ensure that they deliver on the construction of the 300 affordable home goal set by the government under the Team Unity Housing Solution Programme. The 300 homes are to be constructed in the first 5-year term of the government.

On Wednesday’s (April 03, 2019) edition of the radio and television programme ‘Working for You’, NHC’s Mortgage Manager ,Camilia Williams, noted that the organization is very close to fulfilling the mandate outlined in February 2017, during a public launch of the housing programme.

“As of last Friday (March 29) when I did the check, out of the 300 houses that are expected to be built we have 119 signed out and we have 152 on the ground being constructed,” Ms. Williams stated.

The term “signed out” means that the prospective home owners affixed their signature to the necessary documents as a precondition to taking possession of the new house. In relation to the houses under construction, Ms. Williams said that the houses are spread out across all nine parishes in St. Kitts. They are in different stages of construction.

During an interview on Friday (April 05, 2019), Ms. Williams noted that officials were awaiting the decision of NHC’s Board of Directors signalling their approval of additional home construction projects that will cover the remaining 29 houses to meet the 300 target set by government.

NHC houses are normally constructed within a four month window barring any prolonged delays caused by weather or material shortages. The Team Unity Housing Solution is part of government’s overall agenda to empower citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.
