Micheal Perkins To Be Named Speaker of National Assembly

Anthony Micheal Perkins who has served as Senator and Deputy Speaker in the St.Kitts-Nevis National Assembly has officially tendered his resignation as Senator in the National Assembly. This was announced by Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris during his Monthly Press Conference on Wednesday Afternoon June 29th .  Prime Minister Harris indicated that Former Senator Perkins will be nominated during the nest sitting of Parliament to fill the seat of Speaker of the National Assembly . The Speaker’s position was made vacant after  health issued precipitated the resignation of Hon Franklyn Brand who served as Speaker for just under a year.

Foreign Affairs Minister and Deputy Premier of Nevis Hon. Mark Brantley congratulated Hon Perkins on his imminent elevation to the post of speaker.

“Let me be among the first to congratulate the Honourable Anthony Michael Perkins for his elevation to the lofty position of Speaker of the National Assembly which will occur tomorrow at the sitting of the National Assembly. He has done a sterling job as Deputy Speaker and we expect that he will continue to shine in his new substantive role as Speaker. Congratulations my former teacher and friend,” said Hon. Mark Brantley

Prime Minister Harris Indicated that a new senator will be selected at a subsequent sitting of parliament
