Leeward Islands Basketball Championships Moved to Anguilla

The Leeward Islands Basketball Association has announced that the 2016 Senior Men’s Championship will be moved from St.Maarten as originally announced , and will now instead be held in Anguilla. Gilmore Williams, General Secretary of the Leeward Islands Basketball Association confirmed the move via a memo to all member associations indicating that the tournament will now be held in Anguilla from December 11th to 18th. There has been no clear indication as to the reason for the SXM Association’s withdrawal of their earlier commitment to host the tournament.

The tournament is expected to feature teams from Antigua, BVI, Anguilla, Monsterrat, St.Kitts, Nevis and hosts St.Maarten  .

Monsterrat are the reigning Champions having won the tournament in controversial fashion in 2014 when they beat the BVI and Antigua and St.Kitts were both disqualified in the second semi-final game thus clearing the way for Monsterrat to emerge Champions and win their first LIBA Tournament. Antigua, BVI and St.Kitts have won the tournament at various times over the 30 year history of the event. The first LIBA Tourney was held I St.Kitts in 1984 and won by Antigua.
