TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hundreds of people queued up outside telecom stores in Taiwan early Friday to be the first to get the Apple iPhone X which became available in major markets on Friday.
Major Taiwanese telecom companies launched preferential measures to attract Apple fans, with 70 percent of buyers preferring to purchase contract-bound cell phones from telecom companies.
Taiwan Mobile Co. gave away a myfone shopping bonus of NT$100,000 and FarEasTone introduced preferential measures for the first 100 customers.
Mr. Cheng, a college student, was the first customer waiting in front of Chunghwa Telecom’s Xinyi area store, where 120 iPhone X models were available. He lined up for 4 days to get the new IPhone. He said he wanted to get the iPhone X with the money he made from his part-time job and give it as a present to his parents.
Fans waiting in line were mostly students, self-employed and people who work shifts. Mr. Su, the first customer of the FarEasTone came to wait in line three days ago. He works as a ground staff at the airport and asked for three days off just to be the first customer for the new iPhone.
According to the telecom companies, the most popular iPhone X was Space Gray with 256 GB of storage which is said to be the configuration that faces the tightest supply.
