The Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY) has been nominated to receive the Distinguished Community Service Award at the SPBS Awards Gala in New York on August 31st. The event will be held under the distinguished patronage of the Honorable Selwyn S.C. Walters. The theme of the event is “Working Together for A Brighter Future”, and as a natural consequence, SPBS is reaching well beyond the shores of SKN to highlight impactful volunteer organizations.

SPBS had the opportunity to collaborate with the APANY after the 2017 Hurricane Irma that devastated Anguilla, by donating supplies to be sent to Anguilla.  It was the observing of the great work that the group does for the people of Anguilla at home and abroad that we decided to nominate them for the Distinguished Community Award.

The Anguilla Progressive Association of New York, Inc, (APANY), is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in New York State since 1996, to create and maintain positive socio-economic and cultural development partnerships between Anguillans at home and throughout the diaspora.

Since their inception during 1996, when the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York, Inc. (APANY) was founded by a group of concerned Anguillans residing in New York, to provide assistance in response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Luis on Anguilla in September 1995; APANY remains involved with reaching out globally to the Anguillan Diaspora, Friends of Anguilla, donors, volunteers, supporters and our sponsors to provide charitable support for “goodwill projects” to benefit Anguilla’s socio-economic and cultural development.

Based in New York City under the leadership of Carlson Connor its President with a sister chapter in Florida, the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York, Inc., (APANY), is a leader in nonprofit philanthropy that is most recognized, to accept donations from organizations, individuals, donors and supporters who want to support charitable “goodwill projects” on the island nation of Anguilla.

As an illustration of our point, during the immediate aftermath of the devastation of Anguilla by Hurricane Irma in September 2017, the Government of Anguilla authorized the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York, Inc., (APANY), to serve as the official hurricane relief organization for the island nation of Anguilla.

Shortly thereafter, the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York, Inc., (APANY) officers, members, and supporters spearheaded their own relief efforts by collecting and donating several shipments of food, water, supplies, and other emergency products for distribution among communities across Anguilla.

Also, Friends of Anguilla, generous private donors and supporters contacted APANY and made charitable donations to assist in the recovery and restoration of churches, schools, and Anguilla’s infrastructure.

To be more specific with honorable mention of one of those charitable “goodwill projects”, The Anguilla Progressive Association of New York, Inc. (APANY) is poised to engage in planning and coordinating to host the “The Anguilla Nevis St. Kitts Association Reunion – (ANSAR)” on the island nation of Anguilla during July 10-12, 2020.
