SKNYPA Hails Appointment of New Senator to St.Kitts-Nevis National Assembly

Basseterre, St.Kitts (October 30th 2016):- The St.Kitts-Nevis Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) is hailing the appointment of the newest Senator in the St.Kitts-Nevis National Assembly Hon. Akila Nisbet-Byron. In a brief statement issued on the weekend President of the Youth Parliamentary Group Attorney Azard Gumbs congratulated Nisbet-Byron and highlighted her pioneering role in the development of SKNYPA with her involvement in the precursor group that eventually morphed into the Youth Parliamentary organisation

Gumbs stated “On behalf of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) I wish to congratulate Hon. Byron-Nisbett on her appointment as Senator. Although she was not an official member of the St.Kitts National Youth Parliament Association, she was one of the many young people who debated in the House of National Assembly in 1999 just before the official formation of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association in 2001. As such, she would have had a foretaste of parliamentary procedures much like many of the members past and present of SKNYPA who have participated in youth parliamentary sittings.”

Nisbett-Byron  represented the Federation at the Millenium Commonwealth Youth Parliament in 2000 which was held in the UK.

At 35 years Old Nisbett-Byron is within the Internationally recognized age of Youths ie 35 and Under.

The SKNYPA President Gumbs  expressed his groups desire that Nisbett-Byron’s appointment will serve as an inspiration to past, present and future Youth Parliamentarians.

“We would hope that her appointment serves as encouragement to past, azard-gumbspresent and future youth parliamentarians who aspire to serve their nation at a similar level. We hope that she would carry out her duties as Senator to the best of her ability and in the best interest of our Federation,” President Gumbs Concluded.

Mrs. Byron-Nisbett, who is a mother of two boys and a girl ages eight years, five years, and eight months old, took the Oath of Allegiance on  Wednesday, October 26th, at Government House. The Governor General, His Excellency Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton GCMG, CVO, QC, JP, administered the oath in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Premier of Nevis and Senior Minister the Honourable Vance Amory, Senator the Honourable Vincent Byron Jr. Senator the Honourable Wendy Phipps, and Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Josephine Huggins.
